Description:
Food waste is a very serious social problem. And households are responsible for the largest portion of all food waste. Leading causes of waste include food spoilage, over-preparation, confusing date labels, over-buying and poor planning. Reducing food waste at home is the easiest and most effective way. People can reduce waste by planning their food purchases, storing food properly and using a variety of cooking methods.
Objective:
Scrap to Savory is a project designed to assist individuals in comprehensive food management and consumption. It empowers people to tackle food waste at its source, offering resources such as a zero-waste cookbook, recipes, meal planner, posters, and an app. Through these tools, individuals can cook and procure necessary ingredients while minimizing the occurrence of food waste.
I ultimately adopted a style that combines illustrations with real images, though illustrations remained the primary focus. I chose four colors inspired by natural foods to create a design that appears more wholesome and friendly. These colors were used judiciously to showcase more impactful content and designs, enabling individuals to gain a deeper understanding of food waste stories and effective reduction methods.
